Our pedagogical offers will mainly focus on Karin Beier’s production of »Ivanov« by Anton Chekhov, Viktor Bodo’s adaptation of Franz Kafka’s »The Castle«, and Michael Thalheimer’s production of Bernard-Marie Koltès’ »West Pier«. In »Ivanov« we look at the main character’s reflection of current tendencies in modern society, the feeling of life being superfluous and meaningless. Where do we get our visions today? Where do we look for new perspectives? Where do we find the strength to take our own life in hand? In Kafka’s »The Castle«, the land surveyor K. fights against the restrictive attitudes of bureaucracy. His wish for a better future and his hopes of finding a place in society are more topical than ever. Koltès’ play »West Pier« is the story of a criminal and bankrupt banker whose attempt at suicide takes him – chauffeured by his secretary – to a border zone of civilisation peopled by small crooks and illegal immigrants. It shows how a person is destroyed by the loss of real, emotional and objective values. And in November we bring back our family play »Robin Hood«, to which we offer introductory sessions.
Writing workshop in schools
Aside from digital text messages, most young people have little or no interest in writing. We want to change that! In his creative writing workshops, children’s and young people’s playwright Carsten Brandau practices a form of writing which frees it from the classroom context, making it meaningful and encouraging self-expression. Target group: 9th grade and upwards / time: approx. 90 minutes (mornings or afternoons) / free of cost / registration: michael.mueller@schauspielhaus.de
Language and theatre workshop
What is language and when do we lose it? Words want to be rediscovered, added to and invented. Or do we have our own language that we speak to each other, is it mixed together out of many different sources? Theatre director Gesche Lundbeck takes pupils on a playful theatrical-linguistic journey with an open end and lots of fun exploring language. Target group: Grades 5 to 12 / time: approx. 90 minutes (mornings or afternoons) / free of cost / registration: michael.mueller@schauspielhaus.de
